From Farm to Fame- Chapter 6

Gaige and I worked in the garden together, it was nice to have the help with the increased work, and I couldn't let him do it all himself either. It was awkward at first, but eventually the awkwardness disappeared. We talked about anything and everything, and the time just flew by. I was going to miss him when he had to go back to his university, the help was great, but the conversation was even better. He was my first friend around my age in Bridgeport, and one of very few in my life so far.

I was beginning to hope that one day we would be more than just friends, but I still suspected that he didn't. He just wanted to make me feel better, break the tension, after catching me in my towel. So, it came as a surprised when he asked me to the club with him. It was one of the fancier clubs in Bridgeport, The Prosper Room. You had to be a celebrity to get it, but Gaige insisted that he knew the bouncer and he'd let us in. I certainly wasn't going to say no,  but I had to scramble to find something nice to wear. I ended up buying a new dress, because I had hardly any clothes that were suitable to be worn outside the garden.

The way that Gaige smiled as he told me how beautiful I looked made me feel amazing, but scared at the same time. It was a new experience for me. After a couple drinks at the club, Gaige convinced me to dance with him. I was a horrible dancer,  and I felt like a fool, but Gaige insisted I looked cute dancing.  I didn't believe him at all, but those lies always make girls feel good, it made me feel good.

Gaige just used cheesy over-used pick-up lines all evening, I knew he was goofing around but I played along. I laughed and told how bad he was at flirting, and that was coming from the socially awkward farm girl! He winked and told me his kissing would make up for it, and without even thinking I dared him to prove it. I felt like an idiot, he was just goofing around, and I was probably going overboard. I went to hide my face in my hands, but he grabbed them and pulled me in. He definitely wasn't lying, it was flawless, it was the most incredible moment of my life.

I was really going to miss him when he went back to university, which was the next day. I just clung to him, I didn't want to let him go, or even think about him going.  I had to fall in love with him at the worst possible time.

From Farm to Fame- Chapter 5

It was finally spring, though the weather in Bridgeport seemed to be spring-like even in the winter, I knew the official start of spring meant more time in the garden. . I enjoyed denial in the mornings however, and tryed to eat breakfast and shower without worrying about what was ahead. Rose never bothered me in the guest house, which as much as I loved her company I really enjoyed, I still ate breakfast with her in the main house anyway.

One morning I had gone strutting out of the bathroom in nothing but my towel, somebody was standing by the front door. It wasn't rose, I hadn't been wrong to assume that she wouldn't bug me in the guest house, it was some guy I didn't know. I screamed and ran back into the bathroom slamming the door behind me. I was so embarasssed, even if they had just walked right into the guest house with out knocking or anything, which was very rude, it didn't change the fact that I had nothing on but a towel that didn't cover much.

After I heard them leave I went back out and got something more appropriate out of the dresser, before heading over to the main house to check up on Rose before hopefully sitting down to breakfast. I decided if they hadn't tryed to get in the main house I was well I wasn't going to tell her. I didn't want to worry her. I noticed however, that they were in the garden. It seemed weird, though I didn't mind somebody else doing my work for me. I just tried to walk past and ignore them, it seemed to awkward to confront them after what happened, I thought I might tell Rose after all, since they hadn't left. They stopped me before I could get into the main house.

"I'm terribly sorry for barging in on you. You must be Rachelle, my grandmother has told me about you and how you are so kindly taking over for me. I'm Gaige, Rose's grandson. I'm not used to anybody else staying in the guest house, and it seems to have slipped my grandmothers mind to tell me. Though I didn't tell her either that I was coming back home, it's spring break and I wanted to surprise her, I figured she'd be lonely."

That's when he leaned in close and whispered in my ear "I, however, didn't mind walking into see such a pretty lady. I just hope that the pretty lady will forgive me."

I blushed and stuttered trying to say something, before giving up and walking over to the main house. I was even more embarassed, but also very flattered that Gaige thought I  was pretty, he was quite good looking himself. I'd never thought of myself as pretty, just boring farm girl. The more I thought of it the more I thought that Gaige was just trying to keep me from slapping him or something, a guy like him would never like a girl like me.

He followed me into the main house, and after his grandmother hugged him and fussed over him and how it looked like he didn't eat enough while he was away, we all sat down to a very awkward breakfast. It was awkward for me anyway, and I think Gaige as well not wanting to mention to his grandmother how he'd walked in on me. Rose however, didn't notice the awkwardness, she was just delighted to have her grandson home for a few days. She kept telling us about how wonderful the other was, and we would surely get along very well. Gaige smiled and agreed that I seemed like a lovely girl and he'd be glad to get to know me, I just blushed more and ate in silence.

From Farm to Fame- Chapter 4

I didn't really expect Rose's garden to be so large, her whole house was massive. I'm pretty sure my whole apartment would fit inside of her guest house. I hoped one day I could afford a house like hers. It was beautiful. We had agreed upon a 35 simoleon an hour wage, it was the standard wage for a part time job in Bridgeport. I figured I'd end up working more than part time hours, but I wasn't in a position to complain how much I was earning, though if I'd realized the size before I might have asked for more.

I was right, it was more like a full time job, I spent all day every day in the garden. I had to travel and hour each way, and still tend the garden in front of the apartment. When I got home each day I just wanted to relax, but it seemed like something broke every day, and I spent the evening on the phone arguing with my landlord about getting it fixed.  I really wished I hadn't left the farm, life was so much easier.

One day rose confronted me.

"Rachelle, you look so tired dear. Don't overwork yourself, you can leave early if it's too much, I'll understand. Are you just not sleeping at home? You need to sleep dear, you have to look after yourself. Is it because you are unwell? You have to tell me these things dear, I don't want to make you work if you're sick."

"Oh no, no. I'm fine. It's just... my landlord...he's being difficult. Something is always breaking in my apartment, and I spent hours trying to it fixed, but he won't help me... at all. I always end up fixing it myself. I spend more time fixing things and arguing with him then I do sleeping."

"Well, you aren't going to put up with that anymore! You should have put up with it at all"

"What am I supposed to do? I don't want to wake up to a flooded apartment or something."

"You come stay here, that's what you do. You can stay in the guest house, you aren't putting up with that, you need to stand up for yourself missy!"

I could tell by the tone in her voice that it would be no use arguing with her about it. I didn't really want to move into her guest house. It was nice, and Rose had become like family, but I wanted to handle things on my own. It was sweet that  she cared so much though, it was one of the reasons she had become like family. She made being away from my actual family a lot less painful, and it would be nice to have her company... I got the feeing she need mine just as much.

It cut down on the travel time as well which was very nice, the more I adjusted to living in her guest house the more I liked it. I'd eat meals in the main house with Rose, and we'd talk. She told me stories from her past, all the things she had seen and done, she had traveled a lot so most of her stories were about foreign places. She talked about her grandson a lot also, his mom had died shortly after giving birth to him, her health had always been very poor and it was a miracle she lived long enough to have him. His dad, Rose's son, had neglected himself after his wifes death, and nobody noticed just how bad he was doing until it was too late. So her grandson was more like her son because she ended up raising him. He was in his first year of university, and that was why he was away. He was studying to be a doctor, he didn't want anybody else to grow up not knowing their parents because they died, Rose was extremely proud of him.

It made more sense why she had created so much of a fuss over me, and why we were so close. I wasn't just filling in tending the garden for her grandson, I was filling in as somebody to talk to and look after, she didn't have anybody left while he was away.
